Evaluation (Redirection)

I have decided to change my music video idea.

This is because of a few reasons:

  • First of all, I'm not satisfied with it because it feels too messy due to the many interlinked settings and the complicated shots. In short, I feel like I've overdone it.
  • Two, some scenes aren't accessible anymore like I planned it to be. For instance, the trampoline I was planning on using, for the verse scene, was my friend's and she no longer has it anymore due to a storm that blew it away.
  • Finally, I wanted to reference actual scenes from films and shows unlike my initial idea of taking full inspiration from music videos I watched before.

Some Films or shows I want to reference:

Euphoria (2019) - I'm inspired by Sam Levinson's use of dolly zoom, because when the camera moves towards the characters it establishes their emotions. It creates importance in whatever activity, monologue or facial expression they're implying.

Here is an example of a bunch of scenes from Euphoria where the camera moves towards characters:

Twilight - New Moon (2009) - I'm inspired by the scene where Bella looks out of her window and stares outside of it as time passes by. This conveys some sort of depression, as she grieves over a boy who's moved away (Edward Cullen), which is somewhat similar to what my music video character is feeling. Except, she's dealing with a break up.

This is the clip of Bella that I want to reference:

Waves (2019) - I believe this film has great colour grading. I want to take inspiration form the blue hues and the yellow greens, that they use because it helps set the mood and emphasises the emotion I want my music video character to convey.

However, I will be referencing another music video:
  • Let me go by Daniel Ceasar - I really enjoyed the running in slow motion part. Personally I know running is such a good way to isolate yourself from any stressful thoughts and feelings. Running in slow motion shows time passing without noticing it. It makes you feel alive, much like what I want my music video character to feel.

Here is the new story board I've produced:

Although I've kept the bridge and the final chorus the same, it's important to realise that I've changes majority of the ideas. I'm happy to move forward in filming this because I find it's more cohesive now.
